Theory Work - TV Studio

Hello,

In the TV studio we had to talk about news headlines and how to present the news, changing the headlines to make them positive or negative, which was very difficult. We also discussed about our essays and if everyone managed to do it.

Also in Sarah's lesson we did Foley which is the way you make sounds in films and TV by using objects to fit sounds in the show or film. We had to choose a film and remove the sound and start putting our own sound in it, using our own sound by making them.

Theory Work - News Package

Hello,
Today we gave feedback on the presentations which we did last week, we worked in groups or pairs and filled in a sheet about our presentation, what we could of improved and what other people thought we could have done better, I got told my presentation had,
  • Very good info, good use of slides, and well presented
  • A very good video, likes the history of my presentation.

To improve they told me I could have been,
  • Less nervous
  • To be more enthusiastic about my topic.
I thought my presentation was very well ordered and everything was in the order I wanted it to be in, but I think what let me down was that I was being very nervous and as I was told I needed to be more enthusiastic about my topic.

News Package - Prezi

Hello,

Today we used a software called Prezi which is another way of presenting instead of power point it was easy to use, but it was a little bit more complicated than power point, but once you got used to it, it was easy to use. I swapped my presentation over from power point, so I changed all my information over from the power point and did it on Prezi. I think it will change the way I do presentations in the future and help me to achieve the higher grades I would like. There are some advantages to using power point because I think that you could put more information on a power point presentation but Prezi makes your presentation more interactive and keeps them engaged more.

News Package - Practical Work

Hello,
We did the vox pops for our actual news package, I had to go out and collect responses from the public asking questions which relate to my news package. The questions I asked were:

The galleries of justice had had £million spent on it is this money well spent, a good investment for Nottingham?

Is it important that we keep our heritage or should we stop living in the past?

What sort of facilities would expect from a place which has had funding?

Our group was starting to find in difficult to collect our vox pops as the weather was against us and we were starting to find it quite difficult, and some of us were starting to get annoyed so were hopeing to go out and do it again.

News Package - Survey Responses

I got lots of re-occurring answers and they tended to put very basic information and simple answers like “yes” and “no”, and never went into detail.

I didn’t find anything surprising in my answers, because I knew some people would not take my survey seriously and have just responded as a joke.

My first question I asked “What sort of facilities would you expect from a national lottery funded project?” – I was going to see what people thought the money should be spent on and what they would like the money to be spent on. One response said “modern and up to date”.

My second question I asked was “How long would a news package need to be to keep you interested?”- I wanted to see how long I should keep my interview and vox pops so people would not get bored I just got answers like “3 mins, 5 mins, and 10 seconds”.

My third question I asked was "What kind of information would you like to know about the funding? e.g. Wheres the money going?" - I asked this question to see what people would actually like to know about the money and what actually happens because sometimes people wonder about where and what happens the the money. I got responses like "basic information" and the same question as the example.

The fourth question I asked was "Would you prefer visuals to help you in a news package?" - I asked this question to see if some people would like to see the information instead of me or someone just saying it out loud. I maybe should have reworded the question as I just got one word answers like "yes" and "no".

My final question I asked was "Would you know visit a place which has had funding and if so why not before?" - I asked this question to see if people would actually visit a place which has had funding what might mean for companies which get funding. The responses I got were basic answers like "Yes because I like to see where the money was invested" and just "No".

This information will help my news package because it will tell me what people may want to hear about and what kind of information they and the style people would like my news package to be.The elements I would change would be the wording of the question and some of the words as some people may not understand what the would means or never have heard that word before.

Practical Work - News Package

15/10/2015

Hello

Today we went out and did vox pops which are what they use in news packages where we talk to the public and ask them what there thoughts and views are on a certain subject. We had to go out in groups of threes and ask questions on a topic we were given ours was 'What is cool at the moment?'.
The vox pops had to be very short about 30 seconds and if they were any longer try to be polite and ask them to stop and move on. We had to get used to being rejected as a majority of people did not want to be on camera and that was fine. We managed two vox pops each, 6 altogether enough to get a lot of footage to edit and practice.

Practical Work - Debate

13/10/2015

Hello

Today we went into the TV studio to see how we would set up our debate and what layout we would use when it came to filming the debate, we all had different roles someone on the actually panels debating some people on the cameras and sound while the others were in the gallery with all the control of whats on screen. We discussed on how would set up a debate show and what kind of equipment we would need for our debate show. We also after debating had a session on what our debate would actually be about and what script we would use and the sounds and backdrops we would use for the show.

Theory Work - News Package

Hello

Today we researched and looked at what we could do for news package. We looked at different types of news packages and looked at different types of genres and what are the different conventions of each one. The conventions of a PTC (Peace to camera) where the presenter talks directly to the camera, usually at the beginning and the end. 1 main interview 30-40 seconds, B-Roll, cut away shoots help tell the story. Vox Pop, the public's short response to a question, Good sound, Text used to introduce the presenter and interviewee. Noddies, just nodding as the response.

Theory Work - News Package

Hello,
Today we learnt 3 terms which will be crucial to learn for our news package, about target audience,

Demographic = Basic Information, like your age and gender for me it would be 16-18 and male, it would be all different depending on what age and gender or the type of product or program you are making.

Psycho-graphic = This is categorizing someone by there hobbies or interest like stereotyping, so if you  like one thing your meant to like another thing.

Socio-Ecomic = This categorizing someone by the amount of money they have, what class you are, upper, middle or lower class, then they would base it around that.

We also looked at two different news programs showing the conventions of a news package,

Newsround =
Its a children's program so its not meant to be as serious but it uses some words that someone very young may not understand so the target audience may be 5-12 year old's, the program was about penguins, which may interest a majority of children male or female, also it uses brighter colors to keep children interested also the cameras never stopped moving and the interviews were kept short so they didn't lose the interest, children may have short attention spans.

Brass eye =
This was a comedy show which used the style of a news package to get there point across, the comedy was definitely meant for older people so 18+ also it used lots of dark colors to show that its more for adults. You could also say that its meant for a middle class or lower down classes as they are using posh people in it making fun of them as there the easiest to make fun of.

Practical Work - The Chase

Hello

Today we added music to our short film 'the chase' to fit into the footage we have filmed adding the effects which include a fade in black and transitions to add suspense to the short film.
Changing the lengths and the volume of the music to fit in and add suspense to the film, as it was difficult to find the right part of the song we needed.

Practical Work - The Chase

Hello,

22/09/2015

Today we filmed most of our short film the 'The Chase' we used all different shots, including a dutch angle, upside down steady shot to follow the feet of while we were running. We also used a jib shot to make the audience to feel disorientated and uneasy, makes the audience more scared and adds effect. We used our storyboard as a guide to make sure that we had the right shot. We practiced with different shots to make sure we had the perfect shot for of our scenes. We also have had to get rid of a few shots that we took as thy weren't what we were expecting and did not suit what we needed for our chase.

Practical Work - The Chase

Hello,

21/09/2015

Today we got the music ready for our short film for the different scenes in the 'the chase'. We also changed the storyboard to fit our new ideas we had for 'the chase'. We also went out with the cameras to test out shots with the tripod, the jib shot and the steady shot. We also tested shots out like the dutch angle. We could not go out filming today as it was raining, so it always good to have a back up plan, a contingency plan.

The Songs we will use.

Practical Work - The Chase

Hello,

17/09/2015

Today we finished our pre production the storyboard and we went out on location to do some practice recces for our short film 'the chase'. We also were improving our proposal and printed them off. We are prepared to film our short film 'the chase' on Monday. To make our storyboard we used a program called storyboard that which allowed use to create a storyboard however we wanted we multiple backgrounds and characters that we could select. We could also edit our storyboard anyway that we wanted if we changed our mind.
